“I caught five trout, but Lena caught eight,” Kuó ran up and
said, holding up his catch on a stringer. “She beat me today, but
tomorrow I’ll use her trick to catch fish.”
“What is her trick?” Bardala asked.
Kuó said, “She used a kernel of corn to catch the first one,
then she used the liver of the first one to catch the others. I
didn’t see what she was doing until it was time to quit.”
“You’ll have plenty of time to practice the art of fly fishing.
It’s one thing I like to do for fun,” Bardala said as she checked on
the baking bread.
Later, just before bedtime, the crew sat around the campfire
roasting marshmallows while Tital explained to them how he
hoped to control the herds of wild horses that they would be
moving for the next few weeks.
“You said take it slow with the horses. What if the horses try
to run on us?” Lena asked. “What should we do?”
“We don’t want that, they will be very difficult to control if
they are running. We will have to use our radios to let everyone
know what is happening, because the horses may be spread out
for over two kilometers. We will have left the portal door open
on this side, and the LED flashlights will give the horses enough
light to go into the cave and through the Portal door. Bardala
and I will contact Zotz, who will open the Portal door on the
other side in Vivia. Then the horses can flood through to Vivia.
Viviana probably will need to slowly push the horses along when
they get close to the mouth of the cave. She will need to use her
special powers. If we take it slow, everything should go
smoothly. Now, get some sleep. Five o’clock in the morning
comes early.”
