THE BLUE FEATHER

“Look over there at Lentito. See the scars on his front legs.
They have healed over, now. He would follow me to Xibalbá and
back.”
Bardala looked over at Lentito standing beside Centella,
saying “I’m glad you have a good heart.” She thought to herself,
her father would be glad she had such a good friend.
By the second time Tital’s group delivered firewood, Jonathan
and Ronú had a hot campfire built.
“What are we going to eat tonight?” Kuó asked Bardala.
“You see that river; it has some great tasting brook trout in it.
Have Jonathan get out the fishing gear, and you and Lena go
down to the river and fish. I’m sure in no time you can catch all
we can eat.”
“I’m starting to get plenty hungry,” Kuó said, as he went to
get Jonathan.
Soon, Bardala and Tital were alone setting by the fire, as they
prepared to bake some bread in a cast iron Dutch oven.
“It seems strange being back on our home planet” Bardala
said, starting the conversation. “It’s because we have grown
some roots on Vivia.”
“At least, I feel like a good ambassador for planet Earth.”
“Well, at least you are a good-looking ambassador!” Tital said
smiling. “Now, tomorrow we will have a long ride following the
river north, it will be about twenty kilometers, maybe more. We
will try to move them by sundown. We will have Viviana riding
out in front of the herd. She will be the one to direct the lead
stallion. If she can keep him on track, our work from the sides
and from the back of the herd will be easier, much easier.”
