down at the peacefully grazing horses. Suddenly, from over the
top of the pyramid came a dozen Gigantoraptors and
Pterodactyls in the first wave of their sneak attack. They had
used the top of the pyramid to keep their position hidden from
view until the last moment. Ronú had his back to them, and was
snatched up by the lead Gigantoraptor using its hind claws.
Jonathan, looking through the camera lens and concentrating on
getting a good picture, did not see the beasts until it was much
too late for Ronú. He barely had time to use his special powers
to throw a protective bubble up around the remainder of the
group. Thankfully, the bubble protected Lena from being taken.
The second beast tried to make a grab for Lena, only to bounce
harmlessly off the invisible bubble.
With nowhere to go, Jonathan could only put down his
camera and pick up his longbow and arrows, all the time yelling
to Lena, “Keep handing me arrows.”
The tough Pterodactyls joined in, trying to grab any of the
exposed group of explorers. Jonathan kept up a steady onslaught
of arrows, wounding several and killing two of the
Gigantoraptors. This time the attack was very different, because
this time it was planned. It was easy to see that there were four
fearless men that were riding on the first four flying beasts. Two
of the lead Gigantoraptors broke off from the main group and
began flying to the north. One of them had Ronú’s limp body
dangling from its sharp talons.
“We need more help,” Lena shouted to Jonathan while Moka
was chattering to Eegh.
Within seconds, other arrows were striking the Pterodactyls
and Gigantoraptors from behind. Tital and Bardala, seeing the
