Outsiders

With a population just reaching 52, Nowhere Close is the very definition of a small town. Nowhere is also extremely secluded so visitors are a rarity. Here, it’s not a stretch to say that everyone knows everyone. Lex Citing, a senior here at Boring High did not always know everyone and everyone didn’t know her. As Boring High’s first outsider since our Founding Father, Lex has a pretty amazing story.

Citing was adopted into a family—Insiders, of course—when she was just six years old. She had been living in an orphanage in Big City since she was a baby. Even though she was young, she said she still remembers the shock when she first arrived in Nowhere. “I don’t remember many details, but the difference was as obvious as hot and cold,” said Citing, “On the outside there was so much going on, but here, it’s almost like nothing ever happens.”

Although it took a while, Citing adjusted well to life in Nowhere. She still remembered all the buzzes and beeps of the technology on the Outside. The quiet hum of life in Nowhere was difficult for her to get used to. But now, Citing is friends with all of her classmates, who love her very much. She was also the winner of this week’s spelling bee so we know she is doing fine in school. She is also the captain of the girls' cow milking team. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Balph Fitzboring said that she is a model citizen and the "best daughter anyone could ask for."

When asked if she ever thought of going back, Citing declared, "not even if you paid me! Nowhere will always be my home." So Lex Citing is her to stay. Boring High School and the entire community of Nowhere Close is glad to have her.

The Kick-the-Can finals are next week and tensions are high. This year the Boring High Tumbleweeds will host the game against their rival, the Lackluster Prepatory Cacti. This will be the third time in a decade that the rivals have met in the finals and, if history holds true, it will not be an easy game for either team.

The rivalry, dating back to the founding fathers of both schools, has a history of hard fought plays and double overtimes. Their most recent standoff in the finals ended with a 14-12 win for the Tumbleweeds after a four hour game. This year, however, Coach Snoozer is expecting a win.

The Tumbleweeds have a great line-up this year. The starters, all long-term seniors, have gone undefeated this season. One sophomore on second string, Micah Bleck, had an outstanding game last week when he had to go in for senior Jim Stale.

Unfortunately for the Cacti, their star-player, Jeff Blows broke his foot in a harvesting accident this summer. The rest of the team is holding up well with a winning season.

With all this in mind, either team could win the game. No matter what the outcome, this game is sure to be a good one.
