THE SUMMER I SEARCHED FOR GOD

and found his disciples, i sat

amongst them in a circle out

back behind the church. the youth

group leader asked us to share

our concerns, and so

the sinfully

attractive boy

across from me told

us how he could not stand

people who could not stand

the fact that he could not stand

gay people. age twelve and already

aware of what i was, i stared down

at my lap and pondered what place

the body of christ had for a boy who

liked male bodies that weren’t

divine.
