S a’diyya
Interview by Ma*Shuqa Mira Murjan - Part Two
Sa’diyya is a Texas-based, multiple-award-winning, full
time belly dancer. She is a performer, choreographer,
workshop instructor, dance coach, troupe director,
costume designer and event producer. Sa’diyya also
produces her own line of instructional videos
called, “Sa’diyya ONLINE.” She lives in the
Dallas/Fort Worth area with her husband
and one year old baby!
Share some key personal experiences – both
learning and performing – that have shaped
you as the dancer you are today.
In more than twenty years of being involved in
belly dance, there have been so many pivotal
moments that have shaped me as the dancer I
am today. Some of those key experiences were
(and in some cases continue to be) dancing
to live music, competing, attending week-long
intensives, working with my dance mentors,
traveling internationally to teach and perform,
collaborating with fellow artists, and teaching
and performing while pregnant.
As I mentioned in Part 1 of my interview,
learning from and performing with
musicians really changed and improved the
way that I listened to and interpreted Middle
