An often neglected source of advice for the
bellydancer are the musicians themselves.
Although not dancers, they have watched
countless dancers from their on-stage
perspective. As they seek to follow your cues,
they are keenly aware of your connection
to the music, your current emotional state,
and the narrative you convey. So closely
attuned to your performance, they are uniquely
positioned to offer advice on the less tangible
skills of synergy and musicality.
After a performance a few weeks ago,
master vocalist and oud player, Nazir Latouf,
imparted wise advice. He told me, “The goal
