The Character Council added : “ These Heroes are just that – Heroes in our communities , which we lift up in recognition of their achievement of living good character every day , and modeling it for the rest of us . On a personal note , I ’ ve been fortunate to know John ’ s parents , Meer grandparents , and even his Meer greatgrandparents . As my grandparents would say , “ he ’ s from a long line of good people ,” --- and he has made us all proud ! Congratulations John !

Fall is creeping up on us with the days becoming shorter and the leaves already starting to fall off of the trees . Halloween decorations are appearing throughout Greendale , and fall colors should be at their peak soon .
I had my grandson , Korben Carter , over the weekend . We decided to check out the remodeled Greendale playground by the pool . Over the summer the playground had a makeover . A walking path was created around the play equipment and some new play equipment installed . Korben enjoyed running around the playground ’ s new path .
I recently attended Greendale ’ s public input meeting at the Greendale Cabin .
The workshop was entitled , “ What ’ s your Vision for Greendale ?” Discussions ranged from new housing , restaurants coming into the area , walking paths , a community center , and the use of the cabin . The main concern voiced by the residents was keeping the city safe and clean . Look for information on the next meeting which should be after the first of the year and plan to attend . Our voice is very important .
Many of you know Donna ( Miller ) Metzler . I ran into her in my office building . She worked with me at Dee ’ s Delights , off of Stateline Road , for several years . In case you don ’ t know about Dee ’ s Delights , I am going to let you wonder . Donna wanted to let everyone know she is now living in Bright .
A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my sister Kathi Rowland who will be 70 on Nov . 19 . I also have a birthday wish to my friend Mary Keith who will be celebrating her birthday on Nov . 20 .

Manchester has not forgotten ! Manchester Elementary remembered and honored those who serve us , by celebrating Patriot ’ s Day and hosting first responders at a lunch social on Sept . 11 . The school ’ s Student Council hosted a spaghetti lunch and some fun conversations for local emergency personnel !
Fire Chief , Kevin Havlin , from Manchester Volunteer Fire Department ( MVFD ) was one of many who attended the luncheon . In a recent conversation with Kevin , he shared some background about MVFD . Currently , the MVFD is supported by twenty-eight male and female volunteers , in positions ranging from frontline firefighting to running the equipment and driving . These volunteers range in age from eighteen years to senior adults , all with diverse skills and experience . The first-responders volunteer their time with no

Dearborn County and Manchester Township contract the MVFD to provide emergency services . Money from this contract , as well as money from fundraisers , is used for the buildings and equipment . MVFD recently purchased a new CPR machine , Zoll Autopulse , that is being used to assist in resuscitations . This machine provides high-quality automated CPR to victims of sudden cardiac arrest and increases the survival rates . This is a significant improvement in the quality of care MVFD can provide !
Our Manchester first responders are an important part of our community . Kevin joined the group twenty-four years ago when his good friend Mike Williams and Mike ’ s mother were lost in a house fire in Moores Hill . Kevin was inspired to volunteer to help others and save lives . The MVFD is accepting new volunteers who may also have a calling to help . They welcome all ages and physical abilities with a wide range of volunteering opportunities . Call Kevin at 812-926-3141 .
