Sesquicentennial recipients from the Timke and Crum Farms in Ripley County
Hoosier Homestead Awards
Recently at the Indiana
Statehouse, Lieutenant Gov-
ernor Suzanne Crouch and
Indiana State Department of
Agriculture Director Bruce
Kettler presented families
with a Hoosier Homestead
Award.
In honor of Indiana’s rich
agricultural heritage, the
Hoosier Homestead Award
Program recognizes families
with farms that have been
owned by the same fam-
ily for one hundred years or
more. The farm must consist
of more than twenty acres or
produce more than $1000 of
agricultural products per year.
Indiana farms may qualify
for three honors: Centen-
nial Award for 100 years of
ownership, Sesquicenten-
nial Award for 150 years of
ownership, and the Bicenten-
nial Award for 200 years of
ownership.
The program began in 1976
and recognizes the contri-
butions these family farms
have made to the economic,
cultural and social advance-
Centennial recipients from the Kohlman Farm in Ripley
County
ments of Indiana. In the past
thirty years, more than five
thousand farms have received
the honor.

The 2017 real estate market
produced sufficient sales in
the market area in Dearborn
County to use only one year
of sales in the 2018 ratio that
will be paid in 2019. Using
only one year of data has
not been an option for over
eleven years.
Dearborn County is not
alone in being impacted by
the upturn in the real estate
market. Ripley County has
seen a 14% increase in thir-
teen market areas.
Form 11 notices of assess-
ment will be sent to home-
owners in August. The Notice
of Assessment of Land and
Improvements (Form 11) is
an assessment notice that
is sent to taxpayers by the
county or township assessor.
The assessed value on Form
11 is the starting point for
calculating annual property
tax payments. The deadline
for appeal of the assessments
is forty-five days.
