Ahh ... the joy of summer ! It is a time of firsts and lasts — the last day of school and the first day at the pool or lake . Both occasions are met with much excitement and in some cases , tears of joy . I was lucky enough to attend the Class of 2018 senior awards ceremony at Lawrenceburg High School gymnasium . Lawrenceburg is blessed to have such a large number of graduating seniors going on to college . The award ceremony ( because of all the generous scholarships awarded to our seniors ) lasted over two hours ! Congratulations to the Class of 2018 !
Speaking of “ lasts ,” the Lawrenceburg girls ’ softball team ’ s last sectional game of the year went on for a grueling thirteen innings . The game , unfortunately , ended in a loss for the girls . However , I know at least two of my favorite girls on the team , McKenzie Meyer and Bailee Johnson , are thankful for their baseball careers , all the friends they have made over the years , and the skills they have attained . McKenzie will be attending Asbury University , and Bailee will be attending Northern Kentucky University .

Greendale Middle School had a safe trip to New York City and Washington DC at the end of May . The students and chaperones visited the Capital , the Lincoln Memorial , the Jefferson Memorial , the Washington Monument , Arlington Cemetery , Air Force Memorial , a lunch cruise to the Statue of Liberty , Twin Towers Memorial , Times Square , and Ford Theater . They even took in a play at The School of Rock . Needless to say , there was a lot of sleeping on the way home !
I always enjoy my weekly visit to the Lawrenceburg Public Library to enjoy the quiet . As I was reading a magazine on how to make fifty different types of chocolate chip cookies ( yes there is one cookie that contains potato chips , pretzels , and chocolate chips , and yes I am going to make it ), I happened to look up and noticed a new addition at the library deli . They have added an outdoor patio dining area in the courtyard complete

to welcome their incoming freshmen , they are also sending forth forty graduates ! All seniors participated in OA ’ s College to Career Readiness Program - with internships , and 100 % have been accepted into postsecondary institutions . One will join the Army while two will serve in the Coast Guard .
Now for a little bragging about my cousin Rob Harmeyer . A native of St . Mary ’ s who now resides with his wife Diane near Oldenburg , Rob has traveled across our nation delivering what he refers to as “ underground condominiums ,” also known as caskets , for more than thirty years .
According to Hillenbrand , Inc ., “ Rob Harmeyer , a veteran driver with Batesville ’ s logistics organization , was inducted into the National Private Truck Council ’ s Driver Hall of Fame . Mr . Harmeyer has driven 3.9 million miles with zero preventable accidents and no moving violations . This is one of the most prestigious awards in the transportation industry .”
While I agree with Rob ’ s accolades , I question the part about “ no moving violations .” Anyone who has seen Rob on the dance floor knows he ’ s a man of many moves . It ’ s good to know that none are in violation !
Thanks , Rob – for helping to keep our highways safe !
