As students closed the
books on another school year,
Batesville Primary School’s
first- and second-grade
students received cool treats
to celebrate having read one
hundred books or six thou-
sand pages for the 2017-2018
Century Club!
Congratulations to the St.
Louis School Student Coun-
cil who coordinated students’
efforts in collecting three
hundred twenty-six pounds
of pop tabs for the Ronald
McDonald House! They also
combined their pop sales
proceeds and were able to
purchase over one hundred
items for the families who
are residing at the House.
St. Louis seventh- and
eighth-grade honor students
successfully competed in the
local VFW’s Patriot Pen Con-
test as a learning experience
in Mrs. Bettina Rose’s lit-
erature class. Students were
asked to write their thoughts
regarding the VFW’s prompt,
“What gift did America give
our generation?” Mrs. Rose

noted, “I am proud to report
that SLS students took the
podium placing first through
fifth! Along with recog-
nition through the VFW,
students earned cash for their
thoughts, and one will com-
pete on the state level!”
1st place - Audrey Beiser,
who will compete in the State
competition; 2nd place -
Summer Ratcliffe; 3rd place
- Jackson Wanstrath; 4th
place - Adam Laloge; 5th
place - Benjamin Moster.
As another school year
comes to an end, I congratu-
late all our graduates, educa-
tors and supportive families
that help these young indi-
viduals achieve their dreams!
That’s Sue’s news for now!

Summer is in full swing
here in Harrison, and we
could not be busier! The Dis-
trict and The City of Harrison
have just launched new music
events this summer. Residents
are thrilled to have another
venue that is outside where
you can enjoy live music and
food and drink. Make sure to
bring your own chairs to the
kid-friendly event.
The City of Harrison
recently partnered with the
Hamilton County Com-
munications Center to teach
residents how to use the new
emergency notification sys-
tem called AlertHC. The new
alert system allows you to
select the types of emergency
notifications you would like
to receive. The alert system
is also tied into “Smart911”
where you can enter important
information that you want
Greendale pool open. The
Greendale Garden Club has
done a great job planting
flowers around the communi-
ty. Did you know Greendale
has had three public pools?
Our new pool, the one built
in the early 50’s, and the first
one which was in the back
of a residence on the corner
of Mary Street and Nowlin
Avenue. Richard and Evelyn
Schulz purchased that house
around 1952. I remember go-
ing to slumber parties in their
home and seeing the outline
of the pool in the backyard. It
had a deep end and a shallow
end for the kiddy pool.
This year I have planted my
tomatoes in a planter by the
garage to keep the squirrels
from eating them. Well, guess
what- a squirrel was sitting in
one of my planters the other
night checking out what he
will be having for lunch in a
couple of months! My hus-
band thought that was funny.
That’s when I kicked Gracie
the cat out of the house and
told her to go do her job.
Greendale always has a
nice Memorial Day service to
honor our veterans. This year
I would like to honor Terry
Cochran for his nine years of
active service in the Ma-
rines and the Army National

Terry Cochran coordinates
rides for veterans.
Guard. Terry has also been
the coordinator of the rides to
and from the VA Hospital in
Cincinnati for the past thirteen
years. As early as 5:00 in the
morning one can see Terry in
the van picking up his veter-
ans. Sometimes driving can
be a challenge for Terry due
to traffic, wheelchairs, and
scheduling. Thank you, Terry,
and all of the drivers, for the
service you guys provide for
Mike Burgess, Dearborn
County Veterans Officer, and
all of the veterans who need
rides to the VA Hospital.
Our 1929 Ford Model A is
up and running. My husband
will be cruising the streets of
Lawrenceburg and Greendale.
I am sad to report BJ our
golden retriever will not be
cruising with my husband this
yea; he passed on May 15 at
almost fifteen years old. Rest
in Peace BJ.
