I was just getting settled in with the cooler weather when the heat came back again with another hot & humid period . But I ’ m not complaining because I know what will be here way too soon . I always love it when I can look across the Ohio River and see the beautiful leaves on the Kentucky side . Hopefully , this will be one of those years .
A lot of controversy is going on about the professional players kneeling during the National Anthem . I know they have the right to do that because so many have shed their blood to protect that freedom , but I wish they would find some other way to show their displeasure . To me , it boils down to RESPECT , and we should show our respect for our flag . I belong to two Color Guards in our area . When we help pay a final tribute to a departed veteran , we remove the flag from the casket and fold it for presentation to the family . That flag is not given to the veteran , that veteran has earned that flag with their faithful and dedicated service to our nation . I am very proud when I fold that flag with Jerry Bondurant and Ron Spurlock helping me . Jerry was 101st Airborne , and Ron is a proud United States Marine . I love it when I see a kid saluting the flag or standing with their hand over their heart for the Pledge of Allegiance . Nobody will ever convince me that these players are doing the right thing when they protest in this way . God Bless the young man who was the only member of the Pittsburgh Steelers to go out on the field for the National Anthem last Sunday . We have a rich , proud heritage here in Southeastern Indiana and support our nation and flag . It ’ s time for America to wake up and say , " Enough is enough ." Protesting can be done in many ways but not against our flag and what it stands for .
The catfish tournament was a huge success again . Frank McIntosh and the Ohio Valley River Cats brought in 161 teams this year consisting of 373 anglers including a six-year-old . Top prize was $ 10,000 to the winners and the big fish award of $ 5,730 for the almost 50-pound catfish that was caught .
The club members also paid tribute to one of Rising Sun ’ s finest , Les Fogle , who lost his battle with cancer and was a long time member of the club .

A Brush with Greatness
The Indiana Outlaws recently played at Aurora and defeated a Cincinnati team . While the game was in progress , the girls were surprised to see Aurora legend and former women ’ s baseball player , Anna “ Shorty ” Meyer stop by to visit ! They were playing on the field that is named in Shorty ' s honor . Shorty was the youngest player to play back during World War II with the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League ( AAGPBL ). She was in Cincinnati with her son attending the 75th reunion of the baseball league and had not been back to Aurora for fifty years . What a great day it was for both teams to get to meet this legend . The Outlaws are coached by Mike Cutter , Neil Miller , and Kelli Gentrup-Pettit .
who can live on their own .
Donnie Grace was the recent champion at Lawrenceburg Speedway . For the second consecutive year , he was the winner for the season . Racing runs in the blood of the Grace Family .
Veterans Day will be here on Nov . 11 , so start making plans to attend a program in this area . Several programs will be available to choose from , and all are fine programs . Some of
Communities
them are held on days other than Nov . 11 , so encourage your family and friends to attend and show our veterans that we care about them and this great day . Many veterans will be in attendance . These programs are great opportunities for students to greet them and thank them for their service . We don ’ t have too many World War II Veterans left , so make sure you find one at a program and say thanks to a member of the Greatest Generation . I pay tribute to these great Heroes whenever I ’ m able to meet one . I ’ ve known a lot of them and taken many of them to Washington , DC on our annual trips plus the Honor Flights . That ’ s why I ’ m passionate about the disrespect for the flag because , to me , it ’ s like they ’ re spitting in the faces of our veterans .
Take care of each other and enjoy the many beautiful days we have coming up . Fall Fest , Farmers Fair , and the Navy Bean Festival will be over by the time this goes to print . I know people are thankful for the opportunity to go to these events with their family and see old friends and neighbors . We are very fortunate to live in our little corner of the world .
