Hopefully, everyone is en-
joying the newly paved roads
in and around Bright. It seems
like we’re driving down a bou-
levard with such a smooth sur-
face under the tires. While it’s
an inconvenience to sit in line
while waiting for the highway
worker to turn the sign from
“Stop” to “Slow,” the wait is
worth it. Those who work for
the highway department have a
tough job. We should feel very
fortunate to have the excellent
improvements in this area.
Lining the roads will be quite
interesting since one rogue
driver always drives through
the still-wet paint.
Ray and Ruth Ann Schlem-
mer were Grand Marshals of
the Bright Parade this year.
I never thought of myself
as a farmer, but after picking
grapes for the last two weeks,
I realized that is precisely
what I am. A more romantic
word would be a vintner,
but all and all at the end of
the day, I’m a grape farmer.
A “farmers tan” would have
horrified me five years ago,
but this summer it looks like
my socks and shoes are still
on even after I remove them. I
find that after working behind
a desk for fifteen years, I love
being outdoors more than
indoors. I also love ending my
