Minority & Diversity Clerkship Program _________________________________________________________ An Influential Atlanta Bar Program Going into Its 38th Year .

T he Atlanta Bar Association ’ s Minority & Diversity Clerkship Program was established in 1985 and will begin its 38th year in January . The Program continues to flourish with the assistance and support of the five law schools in Georgia - Emory , Georgia , Georgia State , John Marshall and Mercer and many Atlanta law firms , organizations , and Courts .

The objectives of the Program are :
• To increase and integrate the number of minority and diverse lawyers practicing in Atlanta law firms by facilitating their placement in first-year clerkships .
• To supplement the students ’ clerkship experience with skills development and formal and informal networking sessions .
• To assist Atlanta law firms in their efforts to place minority and diverse law students in clerkships and to increase the number of minority and diverse attorneys in practice in those and other law firms throughout the city and the state .
Internships take place for 6 to 12 weeks over the summer . There is no distinction made between the clerk from the intern program and any other summer clerk except for making sure that work assignments are appropriate for a first year ( as opposed to a second year ) law student . The program is not intended to result in permanent jobs but is designed to be educational .
If your firm is interested in hosting a clerk from M & DCP , please contact Stephanie Martinez at smartinez @ atlantabar . org .
We are looking forward to another successful year of this very important program .
