T
he Bankruptcy Section hosted its annual fall social on
October 13 at Tap in Midtown Atlanta. Over 50 Section
members attended and enjoyed the beautiful fall
weather and the opportunity to meet and greet the newest
member of Northern District of Georgia bankruptcy bench,
the Honorable Paul Baisier.
The Bankruptcy Section held a Section breakfast on November
10 at the new Georgia State University College of Law building.
The event was hosted by the bankruptcy clinic (known as the
Bankruptcy Assistance & Practice Program or “BAPP”) of GSU
Law. The event had more than 50 attendees, including Section
members and GSU Law students. The breakfast included a
panel discussion titled, “Star Power: Dealing with a Celebrity
in Bankruptcy & Collection Matters - Ethical Considerations
and Other Concerns.” Attendees enjoyed breakfast and
heard various insights, tips and interesting stories from our
panelists as they discussed challenging and unique issues
that may arise when an individual with notoriety is involved
in a bankruptcy or collection case.
It’s time to register for the annual Bankruptcy and Commercial
Law Year in Review CLE program which will take place
on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at Capital City Club. The
morning CLE program will focus on the Bankruptcy Year in
Review and feature the Honorable Paul W. Bonapfel, United
States Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia, Harris
Winsberg, Troutman Sanders LLP, Beth Anne Harrill, Law
Clerk to the Hon. Paul W. Bonapfel and Karen D, Visser,
Law Clerk to the Hon. W. Homer Drake, Jr. The afternoon
CLE, Commercial Law Year in Review, will be presented by
C. Edward Dobbs, Parker Hudson Ranier & Dobbs, LLP and
Alfred S. Lurey, Kilpatrick Townsend LLP.
The luncheon program will include a tribute to the
Hon. Margaret H. Murphy, who recently retired from the
United States Bankruptcy Court, Northern District of Georgia,
after 28 years of service to the bankruptcy community. For

Institute that teaches students the ins and outs of credit.
Through the CARE Program, members of the Bankruptcy
Section present financial literacy programming to high school
juniors and seniors to help them understand the basics of
credit and how to intelligently manage their credit cards and
credit card debt. Volunteers in the CARE Program will pair up
(typically with a Bankruptcy Judge from the Northern District of
Georgia) to give hour-long presentations on financial literacy
and credit education to local high-school students. To either
volunteer for a program between January and March, 2016
