T
he Estate Planning and Probate Section has continued
its year with several events and more to come.
The Section’s August breakfast featured Nick Djuric’s
presentation Facilitating Planned Giving to Charities. We
thank Nick for always bringing something for us to think about
when we discuss charitable planning with our clients. This
was not your standard discussion of techniques for giving, but
focused on those things that are important in the manner in
which we connect clients to these goals. Further, Nick raised
awareness of how charitable organizations can facilitate what
we do by making sure their resources of information are
available for directing gifts.
Our September speaker, Jim Swain, gave us the first of our
two-part series Why Estate Planning Attorneys Should Not
Ignore Elder Law Issues. Jim walked us through his great
materials on V.A. benefits issues and the numbers
of clients who might be eligible for benefits, but don’t
know it (or are misinformed by the V.A.). We look
forward to the October 8, 2014 breakfast when we
will have Daniel Munster speak regarding Medicaid
Planning.
