Estate planning & probate Section Update

a
s the atlanta bar association gets ready for the
beginning of the march madness© pro bono program,
the estate planning and probate section continues to
support its members and the public by providing them with
easy opportunities to provide pro bono service.
section efforts in this area include both the probate
information clinic at the DeKalb county probate court and
the probate information center at the fulton county probate
court. these programs are staffed by section members who
participate as volunteers, helping individuals file petitions
for Year’s support and petitions for no administration
necessary, offer Wills for probate, and open intestate
estates. Volunteers in these programs also help with estate
administration problems, including questions about the duties
of personal representatives, debt issues and real estate title
concerns. the courts each provide space and resources for
use by volunteer attorneys. section members have been
enthusiastic in their support for both programs, with volunteer
slots filling quickly. These programs provide greatly needed
help to both the public and the courts, as well as providing
great experiences and satisfaction to volunteers.
during march madness©, and engage wholeheartedly in
the upcoming march madness© activities. our section
members will also continue our efforts at the probate courts.
as usual, the section will also provide opportunities for
members to both network and learn. We have a full slate
of upcoming breakfast meetings scheduled through the
end of the fiscal year, a luncheon and another social event.
upcoming breakfast meetings will include the march 13, 2013
meeting, featuring vanessa E. Goggans, who will discuss
“real estate issues for the estate planner- the pitfalls to
avoid.” at april 10, 2013 breakfast, John a. (“Jack”) Terrill
II will discuss asset protection issues. our social event is
scheduled for thursday, march 21, 2013 with the financial
planning association at aja restaurant in buckhead. the
luncheon is scheduled for april 25, 2013 at Villa christina,
and will feature professor mary F. radford of the georgia
state university college of law. please keep an eye on the
