How do you design showstopping, high-carat pieces so they are durable and comfortable enough for everyday wear?
Balancing aesthetics with practicality is one of the most important aspects of bespoke design. We carefully engineer the setting to distribute weight evenly, protect vulnerable areas of the gemstone and create a comfortable fit without compromising visual impact. Every proportion, from the gallery to the shank, is considered to ensure the piece feels secure, wearable and elegant, even when featuring exceptionally large stones.
How does your design approach compare when crafting a client’ s first bespoke ring versus a £ 1M + statement commission?
The design philosophy remains the same regardless of budget: understand the client and create something truly personal. A first bespoke ring is often about guiding someone through the process and creating a piece they’ ll treasure for life. A seven-figure commission typically introduces greater technical complexity, rarer gemstones and more intricate craftsmanship, but the focus is still on exceptional design, storytelling and meticulous attention to detail.
Your most memorable, inspiring, amusing or romantic client experiences?
One of my most memorable experiences was with a client who brought his wife in for what she believed was an appointment to replace his lost wedding band. Instead, it turned out to be a complete surprise- he had secretly arranged a bespoke design consultation to create a pink diamond eternity ring for her milestone birthday. There were plenty of tears, followed by such excitement as we began designing a piece that would mark such an important moment in her life. Being part of those deeply personal milestones is one of the most rewarding aspects of bespoke jewellery design.
