ASSOCIATION NEWS | FOUNDATION NEWS over after trip expenses will go towards the APDT conference presentation on the time spent there and outcomes achieved. Brown, who plans to attend as a representative of the Foundation and to assist Blair during training sessions, will secure her own roundtrip travel, although Kenya Relief will also provide her with travel to and from Migori, food, and accommodation. Both Blair and Brown will donate training and animal husbandry manuals, training supplies and equipment, flea and tick treatments, and worming supplies to the Kenya Relief program. Having Kenya Relief’s canines and handlers properly trained will provide a safer environment for the orphans, medical staff, and the Migori community, Brown said. That community includes Brittney’s Home of Grace, which provides a home for 168 orphaned and vulnerable children; Brase Clinic, which has treated 115,000 patients and performed more than 10,000 surgical procedures from the 22 volunteer mission teams that go to the clinic annually, and the K-7 school Kenya Relief Academy, which serves 470 students and recognized as one of the premier schools in southwest Kenya. “The partnership between Kenya Relief and the ADPT Foundation to provide such training will improve animal welfare and training proto- cols for working dogs that are not widely available in a country where dogs are often considered little more than commodities,” she added. “The APDT Foundation needs your support to help achieve beneficial outcomes for the NGO Kenya Relief, the community members who are served by Kenya Relief, and the security personnel and K-9s who operate for the benefit of Kenya Relief and the community members,” Brown said. “Ensuring safe delivery of services is a critical component to Kenya Relief’s mission and it is APDT Foundation’s belief that this project can help fulfill that laudable goal and improve the long-term outcomes for all, especially the dogs who serve this vulnerable community.” To help raise the $5,500 needed for the Kenya Relief project, the Foundation has created a Crowdrise site: https://www.crowdrise. com/o/en/team/apdt-foundation/davidfeldner “No amount is too small, and we welcome all levels of support,” Brown said. Donation tiers range from: • Lucky Friend: $25 (exclusive written updates for donors) • Trusted Companion $250 (PLUS a video greeting from Don and K-9 handlers, with donor’s name highlighted in the credits section of the video) • Loyal Partner $500 (PLUS a signed color photo of thanks from Don, the K-9 handlers and K-9s).
