Cruising
With the cold weather upon us its nice to see our Coral Coast 2017 participants enjoying the sun-
shine.
Participants have enjoyed three rendezvous at Mooloolaba, Rosslyn Bay and Mackay. All gatherings have been well attended and
many happy faces are in the Alfred’s Cruising Facebook photos. The next rendezvous is at Airlie Beach from 17 July. The boats that
left from June to go north have had it a bit tough, encountering a low that hung around from Coffs Harbor to the Wide Bay bar.
The bar crossing has also been adventurous for some with a couple of breaking waves over the stern. Its all worth it for the sun
and the discovery of new bays and destinations. The great thing about cruising is not just the sailing to new destinations but, if
you do happen to get caught and spend time at port, you also get to explore a land destination, hire a car, go to dinner and meet
the locals. The Alfred’s Cruising Facebook page has all the photos and stories. All members can join the page.
Closer to home our cruising group enjoyed the June long weekend at Bobbin Head. Thanks to Greg and Margaret for the kayak-
ing and BBQ. Bobbin Head is always a great destination for a relaxed weekend.
At June First Friday 140 people were entertained with the adventures of ‘Toucan’. Bruce and Di recounted their adventures from
the US to Australia. They told stories of remote islands, remote destinations and great company.
Next First Friday is Christmas in July with a twist and our safety tip of the month with the weekend cruise to Hallett’s Beach. We
are looking forward to a band evening at First Friday in August when Lauren White will entertain us with her duo – The Little
Fields Band.
We are in the process of drafting the cruising calendar for the next 12 months. If you have a destination you would like included
please let us know.
