Youth Development

Intermediate Youth Development Inter-club Results
The Club is strengthening its grass roots of sailing with the ever growing squad of Intermediate Youth Sailors . Sunday 25 June saw the squad compete on Sydney Harbour for the final round of 4 Inter-club Regattas . RSYS hosted the final round , with RPAYC going into the final stage in fourth place out of eight teams . CYCA placed first and third with RSYS coming in second , with RPAYC finishing fourth is a great achievement for the Intermediate Youth Development teams ( under 13 years of age ). This is a great step moving forward for these participants in the lead up to their pathway into the Club ’ s renowned Youth Development Squad . Photo by CYCA Youth Academy

Support the Club ’ s Youth Sailors

As all members will acknowledge , The RPAYC has a proud and successful history in Olympic sailing with the club being represented in every Olympiad since 1964 . Across all sports , the level of commitment , time and investment required to obtain selection and then achieve success in the Olympic arena continues to increase and Sailing certainly fits this trend . Modern Olympic sailing has also changed , with the 1964 Olympics having 3 traditional keel boat classes and 2 traditional centreboard classes to the Rio Olympics with no keel boats and a broad variety of multihull , windsurfer and modern mono hull centreboard classes requiring agile athletes with a complete grasp of modern technologies , whilst the dedication and time it takes to conquer remains all consuming . The fact that RPAYC has managed to maintain its representative record throughout this extended period is unparalleled across sailing Clubs around the world and testament to its commitment to supporting , encouraging and ultimately achieving Excellence in Sailing . In recent Olympics the Club has produced young Olympic sailors for Beijing ( Angela Farrell ), London ( Nina Curtis ) and Rio ( Jason Waterhouse ) bringing home 2 silver medals in the process . These sailors were nurtured in The RPAYC ’ s Centreboard and Youth Development Programs . In 2017 we have some of our most successful youth sailors in The Club ’ s history working hard towards maintaining our standing as a world leading Yacht club and chasing Olympic representation in Tokyo and beyond . In their teenage and early adult years they are already World Champions , National Champions and multiple Australian Representative sailors . No doubt members will have seen these sailors competing and training on Pittwater and followed their progress at competitions whilst chasing their ambition to continue the Club ’ s proud tradition in the Olympic and broader International arena . Whilst National support in funding , resources , training and equipment is afforded to our countries most successful sailors , and the Club has provided support through our Youth Competition Support Fund , the obstacles that stand in the way of tomorrow ’ s talent bridging the gap from world champion youth sailors to Olympic Champions remains significant I am writing today to remind members of the success of our current youth sailors across a broad range and invite you to consider making tax deductible donations through the respective Australian Sports Foundation accounts towards the campaigns of our club sailors seeking selection in the current Olympic cycle as a way of becoming involved . The links below provide details on our young members who will all be travelling and competing extensively this year chasing the experience and results required to remain in contention for selection , a process which is already well underway , together with direct links to their respective funding portals . There are also links to their social media and contact details where members are invited to reach out to show support or discuss ways in which they may be of assistance . Our last two Olympic Medalists , Nina Curtis and Jason Waterhouse will also be campaigning for the Tokyo Olympic ’ s and further details on how you can follow and support these club athletes towards their Olympic campaign will also be provided shortly .
