Trip Recap
Dong Hee 8B
Every year, each grade in ISY middle school would go on a trip to some place for at least a night
to stay at. Week Without Walls, as we would
call it, has many purposes. To learn about
the variety of cultures is one, to learn more
about your classmates is another and to be
able to be separated from your family for a
while is also another. This year, from January
11 to January 15, the eighth graders went on
a trip to Chiang Mai for the first time in the
school’s history of WWW destinations. There
are three sections of the grade: 8A, 8B and
8C. These sections would then have two
different groups each to do an activity the
school Traidhos prepared for us. We stayed
at Chiang Mai for five days-and in those five
days the eighth grade Chinthes learnt and experienced a lot of fun adventures. In total, there were five
activities we could do: kayaking, trekking, mountain climbing, biking and zip lining.
Kayaking was especially fun for those who loved drowning in water since each boat held about
two people that had to balance the boat or else it would tip over and let you experience the thrill of
sudden ice cold water. You had to wear a lot of sun
cream and had to leave your accessories behind-or
else it would end up somewhere under the lake
where you couldn’t reach it. The person who
taught us how to kayak was Jaymz, who
encouraged people to fall off their boats. You
would do a variety of activities with your peers -
one being everyone balancing in one boat and if
you failed you would find yourself in ice cold water
along with the others.
A tip for trekking: if you don’t want to become tired, go to the front or go to the back where the
teachers are. The center of the line of people consists of a bunch of teenagers who like to express their
exasperation instead of being quiet and enjoying the nature surrounding them. The people first in line
are those who prefer hiking quickly and waiting for the others to catch up while they catch their breath
or prefer the sounds of wildlife and cool air around them. In Chiang Mai, especially in January, when you
hike you can feel the cool and crisp air entering your nose and leaving as warm air. As you hike upwards,
