Hatchet

by Gary Paulsen

Review by Kris Smith

This book is a strong example of good character writing and a true testament of perseverance. The story follows a teenage boy from New York on his way to visit his dad in Canada. While flying over the Canadian wilderness, the pilot of his charter dies of a heart attack. That leaves 13-year-old Brian to crash land in the middle of the woods. With only a single hatchet his mom gave him, he must survive the element of the Great White North. Wild animals, poison plants, and even his own thought work against him in this amazing novel. I give it a solid 8/10 and I would recommend this novel to anyone who wants a good adventure.
