The aim of my concept is to bring together my two biggest passions fashion and music. Music is something that everyone can enjoy and it is completely personal and subjective as everyone has their own individual taste. It has always been a huge part of my life, at a young age my dad introduced me to a wide variety of music from different decades and genres. I have also been singing and songwriting since I was a child and have found music has helped me to express myself and my feelings. Some of my best memories have been at concerts and festivals, there's always an amazing atmosphere of people coming together to enjoy something they love. I have made a lot of friends through going to these events and really believe in the value of spending money on experiences and not just material possessions.
Music artists have always inspired me not just from their lyrics or them as people but also the way they dress. I think fashion and music go hand in hand as so many fashion subcultures of the 20th century came from music. This is why I decided to create an online womenswear brand that is all about bringing together fashion and music. The clothing will be tailored to specific music events throughout the year and will be more unique than what is on other online retailers such as Pretty Little Thing or Missguided. It's for that girl who wants to stand out from the crowd and express her music taste through her style. My brand will also support up and coming artists by hosting pop up events with live music and there will be a digital lookbook magazine twice a year.
The research I have done has really helped me to create my concept. Looking at books on 20th-century fashion and music has allowed me to gain a greater contextual perspective. Pinterest, art galleries and magazines have been valuable sources of visual inspiration and creating surveys and interviewing my friends has allowed me to see a wide range of opinions on music.
Using all this research I have created my final outcomes which are a digital lookbook magazine, fashion film and online and offline marketing material. I have noticed massive progress in my photography, editing and digital design skills compared to my work at the start of this course and choosing the topic of music has allowed me to create something that I am incredibly passionate about and proud of.
