Saddle Mountain Saddle Mountain
Article & Photos by Candace Phillips
The dark skies showed a glint of light peeping from its corners , one by one- the birds began their morning call and life on the ranch was still sleepy- it was in the midst of this scene I knew it was time to get out of bed . I rubbed the sleepiness from my eyes and made my way to the hammock in the verandah . This was my place to witness magic .
Surely , moment by moment – the light cleared a path through the darkness and I stayed there as the witness to our amazing world and daybreak ! This scene I have been fortunate to witness several times and is one of my favourite things to do .
There are a myriad of places one can visit , but very few take you by the hand , capture your heart and leave you suspended in time . This is how I feel about Saddle Mountain Ranch .
This is a family run ranch where it feels like coming home to the warmth of familiar people . It is the home of the Kenyons . Aunty Joan , always ready with a smile , is there to make sure you are well fed and taken care of . Uncle Tommy , is a character with many stories and that cowboy charm . Their home display numerous trophies won by their children : Michelle , Ayla , Judah and Kimberley at the Annual Rupununi Rodeo over the years . The ranching lifestyle is very evident and around which their experience is built .
The Ranch is located in South Central Rupununi , approximately three hours travel by vehicle from Lethem .
