A Great Society (chronicle) In Thursday, we woke up at 6 to have breakfast and leave to the University of Texas at 7:30 a.m. We arrived to UT and we had a 3-hour class. After we finished the class our group which was the bus number 1 went to LBJ Library, it was in front of the building in where we had class. Lyndon B. Johnson had the same vision as John F. Kennedy and Abraham Lincoln, re-establish the civil rights, upgrade education and health. In November 22, 1963 Lyndon B. Johnson became the 36th president of the United States of America after the assassination of the president John F. Kennedy; Johnson was the vice president and after Kennedy died he got the presidency. The library was impressive and it needed to be like that for the important president he was. We waited for the visitors guide who’s named Vicky and we started the tour, also an old lady came with us in so that she could learn how to give tours in the library. We went to the 9th floor and we saw artifacts which were gifts to LBJ when he was president. Then we went to a replica of the Oval Office where B. Johnson worked and has The LBJ library in the University of reunions with important ambassadors. He Texas at Austin created the Oval office after he saw that JFK’s Library had one. He was a teacher and he saw the inequality that Mexican students suffered, that’s why he wanted to sign the civil rights. Besides being a teacher, he was part in the house of “I really admire him a lot. I personally think representatives, lieutenant he’s one of the best presidents.” commander, vice president, president ---Vicky, LBJ Library Tour Guide and he had other great jobs. Vicky showed us the library from the outside where LBJ searched for documents. Lady Bird’s office was also in the building, it was small but it had an incredible view. We saw when B. Johnson became president, also when Kennedy was shot in his presidential car. LBJ went to Kennedy’s funeral when they told him not to go, Kennedy’s wife thanked a lot for that gesture. After that terrible tragedy, we saw how LBJ became one of the best presidents in the USA. 8
