TGA Premier Junior Golf Partnership: Ryan Kossick informed the Board of a newly formed partnership with TGA Premier Junior Golf. The TGA runs the leading school-based youth golf programs in the United States. TGA makes golf accessible to youth by bringing a unique teaching curriculum to Pk-8th grade students at their schools. Using modified equipment and lesson plans developed by golf professionals along with education industry experts, the TGA provides the building blocks for future achievement on the course and in life. We have partnered with the TGA to cross-promote our summer camps, team golf and junior tour to more than 30,000 kids in the DFW area starting in the spring of 2013. Deloitte Justin Leonard Endowment Contract Extension: Mark Harrison updated the Board on the proposed execution of an extension to the existing agreement that expires in June of 2013. Harrison gave a brief overview of how the partnership works. Deloitte executives including Frank Borgsmiller and Rick Davenport combined with staff are working to try and get a minimum of a three year contract extension executed by the spring of 2013. Ewing Charity Classic Update: Mark Harrison updated the Board on the Ewing Charity Classic and solicited the Board’s assistance in securing Tour players and also amateur teams. Harrison reiterated that the reestablishment of the Committee lead by Simon Buckle has been very helpful. The pro-am is considered full with 18 teams and Harrison felt that there would be a good possibility that the event could be full for the first time in seven years. President Bush’s Warrior Open Update: Mark Harrison informed the Board that the section would again be assisting with the conduct of this event later this fall at Las Colinas Country Club. Membership Committee Report Tony Martinez and Mark Harrison provided an update on the following Membership matters: Member statistics through August 1, 2012 were shared and discussed. o The Section has 27 more PGA Members compared to this time last year (2011 – 576 vs. 2012 – 603). o We have eight fewer apprentices compared to this time last year (2011 – 135 vs. 2012 – 127). The number of apprentices continues to trend downward. Other Sections are also experiencing a similar decline. o We have 19 additional Members/Apprentice this year (2011 – 711 vs. 2012 – 730). o The section continues to rank 17th in overall membership size compared to the same time last year. Board of Appeals: Five appeals from Apprentices were submitted to the PGA of America’s Board of Control: Brian Whitehead, Chaz Edwards, Eric Hunt, Gabe Dierking and Patrick Chamberlin. All were asking for early termination of acceptable progress from PGA Professional Golf Management Program as they were not going to be able to complete PGM 1.0 in the allotted time period. Secretary Tony Martinez was supportive of all five appeals. Award’s Banquet, Education and Annual Meeting Date: Casey Paulson, Chairman of the Education Committee informed the Board that the President’s Dinner, Education and Annual Meeting Date / Site had been scheduled for February 24-25 and was tentatively slated for Four Seasons Resort pending availability. Based on feedback from the Membership at large from the survey, 70% of our Membership prefers a date in February as opposed to the traditional MLK day date. The staff are unsure of the turnout, but anticipate it will decline from the increased participation earlier this year. Staff and the Committee are starting to work on the agenda for the education program and plan to meet conduct a conference call with the Committee later this month. President Bleakney reiterated the importance of an educational seminar with less commercialism and also encouraged the Committee to consider waiving the $40 entry fee for the Annual Meeting based on feedback from the survey.
