Governance
The Northern Texas PGA Board of Directors meets on a quarterly basis to evaluate the issues before the Section and
Foundation. I send a detailed recap each week to the Board of current data pertinent to our business. Regular
communication flows between the staff as well as to the committees related to the successful implementation of the
NTPGA strategic business functions.
The Board has approved my personal participation on various golf industry boards. As a leading Section, it remains our
responsibility to contribute in any way that may benefit the industry at-large.
Marketing, Sponsors & Business Development
The Northern Texas PGA is clearly dependent upon its relationship with sponsors and fundraising programs to maintain
its high quality programs and services. PGA golf professionals have a unique ability to influence the success of these
relationships, and I would like to offer my personal appreciation to those golf professionals who continue to aid staff with
these programs.
While the Northern Texas PGA continues to maintain a high retention rate with sponsors at all levels, we are in need of
additional contacts and marketing concepts to increase the opportunity to become more valuable to our customers.
The Section continually evaluates a wide variety of business development opportunities ranging from major tournaments
and new program development to strategic alliances with golf companies and facility management. The Board of
Directors and senior staff work diligently to remain aware of these opportunities, responsive to the imminent timelines
and most importantly, prudent with due diligence.
Finance
The Board of Directors and staff contribute to a thorough analysis of the Section and Foundation budget development.
Financial reports are distributed to all Board Members quarterly with an evaluation of income and expenses relative to
budgeted projections. The Section membership is provided with a summary of the financial reports at the Annual
Business Meeting. Similar reports are available to each member, upon request, throughout the year.
The Northern Texas PGA is continuing to review a wide variety of fundraising methodology for the ultimate benefit of the
Section’s golf professionals. The financial relationship of the Section and Junior Golf Foundation, which includes a
monthly management fee paid to the Section, continues to evolve based upon operational activities and scope of
administrative burden. This positive interdependence is critical to the success of the operation.
The assets of the Northern Texas PGA have grown to more than $1.60 million and include the Section’s reserve fund of
$419,000 and the Foundation’s Deloitte Endowment fund of $950,000 which are both conservatively managed and housed
in cash, CD’s and equities, specifically in working capital management accounts. Our $3.82 million operating budget
currently out paces most, if not all, of the other 40 PGA Sections.
