Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations (FEAFFA)
During the year, it was boosted by addition of
the freight logistics magazine, the professional’s
database and e portal.
2.3 The Directory of Freight Forwarders and
Freight Logistics Magazine
Production of the FEAFFA magazine and directory
continued. Three issues were published in 2014
against a planned four. The reach and quality of
the magazine continued to improve. The project
has now become self-sustaining although there is
still potential for more given the low penetration
in all countries except Kenya. Efforts continue
to enhance the magazine’s appeal. To enhance
readership, the magazine is now available
online from the FEAFFA website. Members
are encouraged to crosscheck the accuracy
of their contact information contained in the
directory and notify the secretariat in case of any
discrepancy.
3. INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
3.5 Risk tracking and management
The Federation continued tracking and
managing risk. This was through preparation
and presentation of risk management reports
to the board with recommendations on how to
handle key and emerging risks. Institutional
sustainability remained the main risk owing to
resource constraints.
3.1 Secretariat operations
The FEAFFA secretariat remained operational with
partial support from TMEA and largely through
internally generated resources. The regional
training coordinator left after her contract with
TMEA ended in June.
3.2 Board meetings
The Executive Board continued to play its
oversight role during the year. Three meetings
were held in Nairobi, Entebbe and Kigali
respectively. The Board received and reviewed
routine management reports that largely dwelt
on the key project activities. This kept the
Board informed on what was happening at the
secretariat and gave them an opportunity to play
their constitutional oversight function.
ANNUAL REPORT 2014
3.4 Hold an Annual General Meeting for the year
2013
The Federation held its Annual General Meeting
(AGM) on Friday 23rd May 2014 at Protea Hotel,
Entebbe. The meeting received and adopted
the proposed budget for the year 2014, annual
program and financial reports for year 2013. The
AGM also elected a new Executive Board for the
next two years. The meeting was preceded by a
board meeting.
3.6 Corporate governance training for the board
The secretariat organized a four days’ workshop
in Arusha, Tanzania in July 2014 for the board and
leaders of national associations. At the end of the
workshop, participants appreciated the concept,
principles and significance of good corporate
governance in organizations. The FEAFFA
leadership code was reviewed and adopted. The
workshop was facilitated by two consultants and
was supported by USAID EATH. All associations
resolved to implement the leadership code.
3.7 Fundraising
Efforts to secure funding for the Federation’s
operations continued in the course of the year.
Several potential development partners were
approached as well as exploring of potential
internal sources. To date, the freight logistics
magazine/directory and selling of EACFFPC
text books are the federation’s sure ways of
generating some internal income. Registration
of practitioners and training are expected to
be anchor sources of revenue as the federation
focuses more on self
