Another way to work with the puzzle is to make the image up quickly and to remove a piece each time. That way it gives everyone a
sense of the whole rather than the individual pieces.
Another approach is to ask each person in your group to choose two
pieces to talk about in one go, so that there’s a bit more selfdisclosure happening. This is best done after a few practices. Each
time the pieces need to be returned before the next group member’s
turn.
A further element of fun can be to turn the pictures upside down and
randomly select a piece. This could lead to sharing on a random subject, rather than an area the member might feel safe with. This
approach would need the agreement of everyone and be after using
the basic approach first. It would suit an individual or group
confident with being open.
If an individual or group are finding the symbols hard to crack, you
or the group could suggest possible meanings for each piece. Here is
one way of interpreting the pieces to do with our life:
The eye piece: could be who loves us/ keeps a watch over us
The Blobs in a thought bubble: could be who are close to us/ how we
feel about our family
The Blob with a star in the hand: could be something special we remember as a child
The compass book: could be what guides us in life/ which way are
we heading
The scars piece: could be what hurt do we carry/ when have we been
recently hurt
The heart piece: could be what we value/ what we love in life
