Madhura Kulkarni V year PRACTICAL TRAINING - AN EYE OPENER “Architecture cannot be explained but must be experienced” totally Geoffrey Bawa Experiencing architecture in terms of scale and proportions is easy when we see it physically. And hence, there are some ideas which got clear in my mind in this training. In this article I won’t be talking mostly on architecture but my experience, when my title shifted from student to a trainee architect. ARCHITECT AS A MASTER BUILDER! Yes indeed! Though we have contractors, consultants and vendors for everything but we should have the knowledge of all including services, purpose of everything. Interacting with the specific consultant is meaningful only when our concepts are clear. Architecture can make a difference in society, in lifestyle and people and their way of thinking. People (Client), Place (site/context) and Pattern (psychology and activity relationship) are the important parameters to look at for an architect to be a master builder. ARCHITECT AS A MANAGER! Being regular in college as an architecture student, working hard on the sheets, making a day with two sun rises and trying to put your best on each and every presentation requires a great time management but running an architectural firm, coordinating work at site, meetings with client, altogether needs a different management skills in itself. But yes architecture gives satisfaction. At the end of the day when you see your rendered sheets pinned up on a board or any small detail being constructed on site is satisfying. In my internship I got to know how the project is executed and what the methodology is and schedule for project. . “Because the beauty of human body is that It hasn’t a single muscle which doesn’t serve its purpose, That there’s not a line wasted; That every detail of it fits one idea of a man and the life of a man.” Ayn Rand, fountainhead 25
