TES British Secondary & High School Section - NewsLetter | Page 2

Page 2 ESC Newsletter Welcome from the Head of the French Section Jean Yves Vesseau, Head of French Section Last year, the H1 French Section students all passed their national exam with flying colours and the French authorities have acknowledged the work of both teachers and students by certifying the H1 class. This means that our ‘collège’ (Year 7 to H1 in France) is now entirely certified by the French state and we are now starting the process for our H2 class. 2014/2015 has started on a very positive note for the French section, with a 25% increase in the number of students. The secondary school remains small though, with 46 students this year. Everyone is looking forward to this new academic year and to taking part in the various tri -section events that enable students to get to know each other better. We are dedicated to providing our students with the best possible school experience and we know that working with BSHS and GS offer great opportunities. There are many changes ahead for us in the upcoming years, with the opening of two extra classes that will allow our students, if they so wish, to take the French baccalaureate. We are well aware that none of this would be possible without the help and support of our colleagues from the other sections and of the parent community, whom I would like to thank for their tireless work. I wish everyone a great school year. A bientôt! Welcome back! Sonya Papps, Deputy Head of the British Secondary and High School Sonya Papps Welcome back to a new school year and an especially warm welcome to the new families joining us. I hope you are settling in well and are as excited as I am about the year ahead! It is hard to believe that more than three months have passed since I went on maternity leave. On June 4th, Mr. Papps and I welcomed our second child, a little girl we named Etta Clare. Thank you for all of the kind messages and well wishes we received upon her birth. We were truly touched and reminded of how special the TES community is. IB and IGCSE Results 2014 Congratulations to our recent IB Graduates on their fantastic results! It was pleasing to see so many students reach their potential and especially exciting that three students achieved 43 points overall – a truly exceptional achievement. Our current H3 cohort are deserving of our congratulations as well. Their IGCSE results were impressive. While we are very pleased that 10 students achieved 10 or more A*/A grades, we are also very proud of all the students who lived our Secondary Values over the two year course and worked hard for their results. Information Evening The British Secondary and High School Information Evening will take place next Thursday, 4th September, at the ESC. The event will start at 6:00 pm, with introductions followed by talks regarding Student Welfare programmes, curriculum information for Key Stage 3, IGCSE and IB and an overview of the University and Careers Counselling programme. H4 University Applications Information Evening Finally, I would like to remind parents of H4 students that our new University and C
