Tamika De Coteau ’17 graduated from the four-year undergraduate nursing
program. A transfer student, she balanced her time at SFC with her career as
a 14 year veteran in the Army. After she passes her NCLEX exam and
becomes a registered nurse, Tamika will decide between becoming an officer
in the Army or going to work for a hospital or private medical facility.
The Most Reverend Paul R. Sanchez, Auxiliary Bishop of Brooklyn with
dozens of graduates outside St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral before the spring
Baccalaureate Mass on May 23.

The Commencement Address was delivered by Evelyn A. Wolfe,
Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry and
Physics. Dr. Wolfe spoke about the importance of taking classes
outside of your major or specific interests. “The education
you receive here at St. Francis College is your toolbox. And it
is wise to fill it with as many different tools as possible.”

Valedictorian Christine F. Muraco ’17, an Accounting Major who graduated a half year early
from the five year Combined Bachelors and Masters Degree program, speaking at Winter
Commencement January 9 inside St. Charles Borromeo Church. The first person in her
family to attend college, Muraco said the environment at St. Francis suited her goals.
“I was suddenly surrounded by determined, hardworking students that knew exactly what
they wanted to do and were working hard to get there.” Christine is now working full time
at CBS Corporation in their tax department, where she originally interned. In fact, CBS
hired Christine for a full time position while she was still a student and she completed her
final semester balancing her new career with a full class load.
