Joseph T . Browne ’ 68 was recently awarded the Ralph Hay Pioneer Award during the 2016 Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement . The Pro Football Hall of Fame ’ s Ralph Hay Pioneer Award , formerly known as the Dan Reeves Pioneer Award , is presented periodically to an individual who has made significant and innovative contributions to professional football . Joe recently retired as senior executive of the National Football League , after having spent 50 years with the organization . Joseph began his career with the NFL when he was 17 years old , working in the mail room .

Walter Timpone ’ 72 — SFC Alumnus Joins State ’ s Highest Court
After 30 years serving as a lawyer in public and private practice , Walter Timpone ’ 72 was sworn in as New Jersey State Supreme Court Associate Justice this summer , the highest court in the state .
“ It is humbling to have been plucked out of the great pool of lawyers to become one of seven justices ,” said Timpone . “ I am seeing many of the critical issues of the day coming across my desk . The work is fascinating and demanding .”
Timpone most recently was a partner at McElroy , Deutsch , Mulvaney & Carpenter , LLP . Before that , he held a variety of positions including at the U . S . Attorney ’ s office in Newark , serving as a federal election monitor , and investigating the NJ Department of Motor Vehicles Inspection Program .
“ My life ’ s experiences , including growing-up very blue collar in Brooklyn , infuse my thinking and decisions . I was a junior high school teacher in Park Slope , a special education teacher in Manhattan , a federal prosecutor in New Jersey as well as a criminal defense attorney in private practice . “ My generation watched many of our peers lose their lives in that war . While it was raging , the College remained a safe haven for us , providing thoughtful discussion and a framework in which to respond to the challenges of the times . Those teachings and guiding principles stayed with me over the years .”
He says he spends a lot of time mentoring young lawyers as a way of giving back , but it was a case as federal prosecutor that produced one of his proudest moments .
“ Two young police trainees came to me after having been told by a mayor and a councilman that they would not be promoted to full status as police officers because they had failed to come out in support of the party during elections .
I charged and convicted the politicians .”
