“ There ’ s a ton of work to do on the inside ,” said Michael Rich , vice president for the casino . “ If you were to walk on the inside , you would see a lot of drywall is up and some has even been painted . But for the most part , there is a lot of drywall to go and no flooring is down yet , no fixtures are in yet .”
The casino has already begun dealers ’ school for those who will man the gaming tables , but more are invited .
“ We ’ re still more than happy to have people apply for dealers ’ school ,” Rich said . “ We still have room in classes toward the end of the year .”
In the 12 Points , on Terre Haute ’ s north side , efforts to revitalize that neighborhood continued with the addition of a unique gateway arch across Lafayette Avenue welcoming people to the 12 Points neighborhood .
The steel sign , which measures just over 41 feet wide and weighs about 2,100 pounds , reads , “ Welcome to Historic 12 Points .”
And this year marks the second year of the Creator ’ s Market , starting in May .
Creator ’ s Market will be held weekly each Thursday from 4 p . m . to 8 p . m . in 12 Points , staring May 12 and ending Oct . 27 , showcasing local businesses , vendors and creators in the 12 Points neighborhood .
“ This is to help support local businesses and give local vendors and growers an opportunity to collaborate with the
community and share their products ,” said Brenna Deal , a member of the nonprofit 12 Points Revitalization Inc .
“ Creator ’ s Market is really an opportunity for vendors who are wanting to start a business , especially in the 12 Points area , giving them an opportunity to get their product in front of the community and create more relationships ,” Deal said .
There will also be food trucks weekly at the new Creator ’ s Market , which also features products from local artists .
“ There are a lot of exciting things happening ,” Deal said . The food trucks will be stationed in the back parking lot of Illumination Wellness Co ., a yoga and meditation business in 12 Points , at 1323 Lafayette Avenue .
On the southwest side , The Mill expects to nearly double crowds this year to the outdoor music venue at 2403 Prairieton Road .
Tim Drake , president of Lukebo Inc ., a company that includes his wife , brother-inlaw and other investors who own The Mill of Terre Haute , said last year “ last year we projected 65,000 visitors . This year , as we are booking our shows , we are projecting even more visitors ,” he said .
Drake said Lukebo Inc . has invested more than $ 1 million on the venue .
For those who enjoy running , Terre Haute has been designated as a Runner Friendly Community for 2020-2025 by the Road Runners Club of America .
The top competitive running site is the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course at 599 S Tabortown St . The

250-acre complex is specifically designed for the sole purpose of cross country running . The course has hosted 15 collegiate national championships . The course is spectator-friendly with a unique design that allows spectators to view the entire race .
In 2024 , the course will host the NCAA Division 1 Great Lakes Regional Championships , Nike Cross Regional Midwest Championships as well as the Missouri Valley Conference Championships ; the Indiana High School Athletic Association Sectional and State Championships ; as well as the Indiana Middle School Cross Country State Championships ; plus several other events , including the NIKE XC Town Twilight run .
