This year two businesses expected to lead the surge in Terre Haute ’ s future economic growth are newcomers — ENTEK and the Terre Haute Casino Resort .
ENTEK , which celebrated its groundbreaking on September 6th , will soon build a $ 1.5 billion lithium battery separator plant in southern Vigo County . The plant will create approximately 650 high-paying jobs . As the auto industry shifts globally to electric vehicles , the plant - which will be in business in 2025 and fully functional by 2027 - will provide lithium battery separators for 3.5 million electric vehicles .
At ENTEK ’ s groundbreaking , Indiana Gov . Eric Holcomb welcomed Vigo County to “ the billion dollar business club .” The company announced a new customer on September
12 , Arizona-based KORE Power Inc . in an agreement that will run until at least 2031 .
ENTEK CEO Larry Keith said , “ This community has been very welcoming . We feel honored to be here .”
Terre Haute was chosen as the site for the new plant after a nationwide search for possible locations .
We did a big project with a professional firm that helped us to evaluate sites around the country .” said Kim Medford , ENTEK president of manufacturing . “ What made the difference here , hands down , is that Indiana knows how to work at the speed of business .”
ENTEK looks to work with community partners to help , among other things , meal programs , needy children , high schools and
Ivy Tech Community College , which will provide the company with a number of its employees .
Before ENTEK joins the community , the Terre Haute Casino Resort will open and boost the local economy . Construction on the hotel / casino exterior is nearly complete , but much remains to be done .
The $ 290 million Terre Haute Casino Resort off Interstate 70 on the city ’ s east side , expected to open in March 2024 , has generated about 1,600 construction jobs and will create 500 jobs including full-time and part-time employees . It ’ s anticipated to bring in $ 190 million annually and part of its profits will put $ 10 million into the local economy , of which $ 5 million will go to the city , $ 3 million to a nonprofit foundation and
