Terrell Forbes and Jawan Jones are the epitome of showing positive progression during their years as part of the Gray Bees wrestling program. Although each wrestler was disappointed with not winning a title, Forbes and Jones, for the third year in a row, bettered their standings at the National Prep Championships at Lehigh University. The 170-pound Forbes, who placed 8th in 2011 and 7th last season at Nationals, wrapped up his SBP career by moving up to 5th-place this winter, while concluding his SBP stay with an overall record of 113-44.“ It’ s been a pleasure to watch Terrell mature since I met him and that’ s what we try to do at St. Benedict’ s- help make good men,” said St. Benedict’ s coach Omar Feliciano.“ He has improved every year and it’ s a testament to how hard he works in the( wrestling) room.” Jones, a 126-pound junior, also took home a fifth-place medal after finishing 7th in 2011 and 6th last year. Jones could have finished higher, but lost a point to a penalty for jumping the whistle off a re-start- his third caution- and lost a 3-2 verdict in the pre-quarterfinals on Friday night. Jones, however, showed plenty of moxie in the wrestleback rounds- winning four matches before running out of steam in the end. His fifth-place showing enabled him to earn All-America honors- reserved for those wrestlers that finish in the top 8 of their respective weight classes. Leading the way for the Gray Bees at Nationals was McZiggy Richards. In his only year in a Gray Bees singlet, Richards advanced to the semifinals before falling to Wyoming Seminary’ s Garrett Ryan- the same wrestler he beat to earn the Outstanding Wrestler Award in the season-opening Caruso Invitational at The Hive. Richards, who also lost to Ryan in the Gilman Duals toward the end of the season, wound up in fourth-place after going 1-1 in the wrestlebacks on Saturday. This came a week after earned the OW Award at the State Prep Championships at Blair Academy. The Gray Bees wound up 14th in the team standings, up from 19th a year ago.“ Overall, I’ m proud of the boys,” said Feliciano.“ We lost some matches we shouldn’ t have and will definitely go over those situations this off season. We are excited about this team for next year and expect big things.”- reported on SBP website
