Discovery Special Academy works with Choices College to help you build confidence, learn new skills and discover what you’ re good at.
What are supported internships?
Supported internships are special programmes for young people aged 16 to 24 who have learning difficulties, disabilities or autism and an Education, Health and Care Plan( EHCP).
You’ ll get help from job coaches and mentors who support you as you learn how to work and get ready for paid employment.
How do they work?
Discovery Special Academy partners with Choices College, which has lots of experience helping young people succeed.
Choices College works with employers such as the NHS, local businesses and schools to create real job opportunities.
Interns can try out different roles, such as helping in the office or supporting in classrooms, matched to their interests and strengths.
To apply, you talk to your teacher, special educational needs coordinator( SENCO) or careers adviser about your interest.
You’ ll fill out an application form and have an informal interview, so staff can get to know you and find the best role for you.
Once you’ re accepted, you’ ll get training and support from both Discovery staff and Choices College mentors.
