We’ re not just showing the jobs available – it’ s about helping young people discover skills they didn’ t know they had and build their confidence in a workplace environment.
We’ ve also been working alongside teachers, support staff and parents to understand the barriers some young people face when looking at future careers and how businesses like ours can help remove them.
Emma Dickinson, who’ s in charge of our early careers programmes, said:“ There are lots of talented young people who might look at a port and think,‘ That’ s not for me’ because they have extra support needs.
“ We want to change that. By giving young people the chance to experience our industry, we’ re helping them see what’ s possible and opening doors to careers they may never have considered before.
“ The changes we know are coming in technology and automation make careers in a port environment a real option for today’ s young people who might feel that a job on the dock might not be for them.”
