HOLLIE ’ S STORY

from the organisation that inspects care firms , known as the Care Quality Commission .
Jessica explains : “ We have to make sure our people have the right qualifications , training , police checks , everything – we need to make sure they are safe and suitable to look after someone .
“ We don ’ t supervise our staff when they go out to look after individuals , so we have to safeguard young ones when they come to us . They need to work alongside and shadow someone .”
And with her own background in nursing , Jessica knows what ’ s required to deliver a first-class care service .
She said : “ I wanted to be a carer from the beginning , then I managed to progress to be where I am now .
“ But whoever comes to us , as long as they have the right mindset , I ’ m happy to help them and even discuss career choices . What do you want to do and what are you capable of doing ?” The care field is quite diverse
– and not everyone continues on the strictly caring route .
Take Hollie , for example . She came to Moonrise wanting to be a carer but , after talking closely with Jessica , is now a business administration apprentice .
Others , too , have chosen different paths , including pharmacy , and health and social care .
But Moonrise guarantees that whoever ’ s taken on will get the crucial training and guidance that can make all the difference .
Jessica said : “ We give mentorship and guidance – although sometimes it ’ s just a case of being there for them . Many are young and need someone to ask questions of and talk to .
“ If they ’ re not ‘ right ’ for care , we ’ d pick it up straight away . But most are focused , know what they want and have a passion for it .”
Inspired by time spent with her nana in a care home , Hollie Pallister arrived at Moonrise as a 16-year-old who wanted to be a carer .
But after chatting with MD Jessica , she modified her plan – and it ’ s worked out really well .
Hollie , who ’ s now 18 , explained : “ I started my apprenticeship in January 2023 and planned to go into the care side of things .
“ But I fell in love with working in the office and decided to develop my career in business administration .
“ I wanted to be a carer because I like helping people . But doing what I do now , I ’ m still helping people , just in a different way . It ’ s very rewarding .
“ I like the people I work with and the positive relationships and friendships I have built – and I have gained such a lot of confidence since I started working here .”
Jessica said : “ Hollie has been a real asset for us .
“ She ’ s an apprentice but works to a high level . She ’ s polite , she ’ s committed and she ’ s not shy to ask questions either .
“ We ’ re a family here , so I tell the others , ‘ Look after our baby ’ because she was so young when she came here !”
And Jessica remains immensely proud of the company ’ s impact on staff such as Hollie – as well as in the community .
She added : “ We ’ ve supported lots of young people and will always do so .”
