TEES LIFE T HIGH STEAKS Tomahawk’s herd growing further afield omahawk restaurants have come a long way since their first incarnation in Potto in 2017. The brainchild of formidable restaurateurs Howard Eggleston and Tom Sturman – both Teesside born and bred – what started as a one-off-restaurant idea has gone from strength-to-strength, with some proclaiming Tomahawk Steakhouse to produce the most delicious steaks Teesside has ever tasted. Having rolled out two Teesside venues, in Yarm and Potto, they offer distinctively different environments in distinctly different locations. Yarm is an exciting place for dinner followed by cocktails downstairs in Hide bar, while Potto sits in a more relaxed and rural location, providing luxury en-suite accommodation and breakfast for those who want to make a night of it. It’s an exciting time at Tomahawk HQ. In just two years, they’ve achieved a social media reach in the hundreds of thousands on sites such as Facebook and Instagram, promoting an impressive total of four restaurants, from Newcastle to the north and Husthwaite, near York, to the south. But what is it that makes the food so insanely delicious to create such a loyal fan base? Howard and Tom like to ensure local sourcing of products and are keen to work with Tees-based suppliers wherever possible. 20 At the premises of their local Billingham suppliers, the meat is kept in a salt chamber lined with 3,500 pink Himalayan salt bricks for 30 days to dry-age before reaching the grill chefs. It’s a formula that works well, with many customers returning regularly for family events. Potto had a hugely successful Christmas period – and bank holidays at all venues so far are proving themselves to be popular, with Yarm flying the fun-time flag as the place to be, with DJs and cocktail Tomahawk also have plans to expand the herd further afield into Ponteland, Birtley and Wynyard, making it even easier to grab a fantastic steak wherever you are on your Tees travels. mixologists at the Hide bar. Tomahawk recently opened their new venue in Husthwaite, North Yorkshire. It’s another typically stunning location, similar to Potto, including nine boutique luxury en- suite bedrooms with secure shotgun storage. When the local Michelin star chef, Tommy Banks, visits in the first week and gives Tomahawk the Facebook thumbs up after his first visit, it must be good! Tomahawk are soon to open in Darlington at the newly-developed DL1 Cinemaplex and have also very recently had the go- ahead for a takeaway in Yarm High Street, providing deli-style food, Sunday lunches to-go and artisan sourdough pizzas alongside Tomahawk’s delicious signature meats. In a dynamic move to work more closely with businesses in the area, Tomahawk are developing a Trusted Partners initiative, having hosted a launch event for Duchy Homes, and have teamed up with Yarm’s Princess Alexandra Auditorium to provide the official pre-theatre menu for concert and theatre-goers.
