Cheers! Garry Wells

Saying ‘Cheers’
in Style
Paul Weller music fan Gareth Paylor is confident
Teesside’s newest micro bar, The Style Council,
will be a big hit with lovers of gin and craft beers.
W
alls came tumbling down when
Gareth brought in the expertise
of local firm Wells Solutions to
breathe new life into the former vape shop.
Designed in what owner Gareth describes
as “rustic retro”, exposed brickwork, copper
tables, wooden wagon wheels-turned-lamp
shades and beer barrels make the Style
Council a cool place to hang out.
And sitting just yards away from the
impressively refurbished Middlesbrough
Town Hall, the century-old former
townhouse is in the perfect spot for pre or
post-concert drinks.
Concert-goers and boozers alike are sure
to love the choice of 45 different brands
of gin, well-stocked fridges and a range
of popular lagers, beers and ciders on tap
including Staropramen, Rekordilig, Coors,
Guinness, Wolf Rock and Blue Moon.
And the Style Council will naturally be
home to plenty of music, though Gareth
promises sounds like Oasis, the Stone Roses,
Inspiral Carpets and the Charlatans, along
with tunes from Mod Father Weller.
“I’m a massive fan of all that Paul Weller
has done, so the bar’s name is obviously a
nod to him,” said Gareth. “I’ve seen him
about a dozen times now. Whenever he’s in
concert, we’re there.
“But we’ll be putting on a range of live
acts, while my wife has plans for burlesque
and Peaky Blinders theme nights, so there’ll
be something for everyone.
“As we’re right next to the Town Hall,
we’re hoping to attract plenty of music fans.
We’ve got one of the biggest selections of gins
anywhere on Teesside but the place looks
fabulous too.”
And Gareth, who previously worked for 17
years with waste management experts Biffa,
says credit for the Style Council’s pop star
looks is down to the creative work of Wells
Solutions.
Electrical, mechanical and commercial
refurbishment specialists, Wells service
clients across the North-East and throughout
the full length of the UK from their base in
Stockton’s Fusion Hive.
But it’s here on Teesside where managing
director Garry Wells says he and his team
of 18 staff most enjoy tackling commercial
refurbishment of all sizes – from business
start-ups to household names.
Having recently converted
Middlesbrough’s Reed House into student
apartments, the family-run firm also won
work on referral to refurbish a beauty salon,
hairdressers and supermarket.
“We’ve done everything from large offices
to warehouse refurbs but this one proved
a real challenge due to a few unforeseen
planning delays.
“It’s been stripped right back and built
back up but it now looks fantastic. I can’t
wait to enjoy a few pints there!”
