Carole Martin on the RMS story… RMS founder Carole Martin. Give us a brief overview of RMS Resource Management Solutions (NE) Limited is a privately- owned business with headquarters in Darlington. Offering a turnkey solution for all employment matters, we provide recruitment, HR and payroll services nationally. What are the reasons behind your success? A reputation for excellence. Knowledge and experience count for a lot, but in a people-dominated business, it’s important to proactively encourage innovation and individual development. One of our greatest success stories is the staff who started as temps in 2004 and are still with us today and have worked for us continuously across various sites. These are the people who help make RMS the success it is. What challenges have you faced over the past 20 years? Understanding the labour market is important for understanding economic and social changes. Our industry is subject to many restrictions, immoral methods of working and often a reputation that tarnishes the industry. RMS works hard to differentiate itself and we regard ourselves as an industry leader for best practice. What is the internal culture of RMS? Working together with an ethos of a “one team, one culture” way of working, every person in the process matters and has a contribution to make. We create a can- do attitude and encourage one another to succeed. What highlights have you enjoyed over the past 20 years? Without a doubt sustainability in a reactive and demanding industry. Today we are regarded as a partner of choice, which cements our relevance and ethical business model. Another highlight has to be when we provided specialist labour for the 2012 Olympic Games, a great experience for everyone in the business – we perfected the Usain Bolt pose! What differentiates you from your competitors as the best possible option for your clients? Labour is the highest cost for most businesses, where people are their brand, reputation and their profitability. Recognising that people are fundamental to our success, we operate as a strategic partner that embraces opportunities to underpin each client’s strategy. This way of working has proved successful and generated long-term partnerships with recommendation and reputation being pivotal to our continued success and organic growth. What does the future have in store for RMS? To continue to develop long-term business partnerships with existing and up-and- coming clients who are looking for a HR and recruitment business to work transparently and seamlessly with their organisation.
