The future – NZT Power, a new gas-fired power station being built on the site of the former Redcar steelworks at Teesworks, will capture and permanently store around 95 % of the carbon dioxide produced during electricity generation.

Another important example of longterm benefit can be seen at Redcar Bulk Terminal.
The terminal has played a crucial role in the construction programme, receiving major pieces of equipment shipped from around the world.
To support this activity, upgrades were carried out to strengthen and enhance sections of the facility, enabling it to handle some of the largest components required for the project.
The first major deliveries for NZT Power arrived through the terminal earlier this year, marking an important milestone for construction.
More importantly, the upgraded facilities will leave behind an enhanced asset that can continue to attract investment, support industrial activity and create economic opportunities long after NZT Power has been completed.
This long-term legacy is one of the most significant aspects of the project.
When people talk about economic growth, it is often tempting to focus on headline investment figures. Those numbers matter, but the real legacy comes from maintaining and strengthening capability within a region.
Teesside did not need to create an industrial workforce from scratch. The skills, experience and determination already existed here.
Projects such as NZT Power provide an opportunity to put that expertise to work on a new generation of low-carbon infrastructure, while creating pathways for younger people to develop the skills that industry will need in the future.

Numbers in Action
When complete, NZT Power will generate up to 742MW of low-carbon electricity.
That’ s enough electricity to power the equivalent of around one million homes.
NZT Power and the Northern Endurance Partnership have surpassed £ 2bn in awarded UK supply-chain subcontracts.
The projects are expected to support more than 3,000 jobs during construction.
