Tees Business given exclusive tour of monumental SeAH facility
Tees Business and a group of key partners were given a rare behindthe-scenes look inside SeAH Wind’ s vast new monopile manufacturing facility at Teesworks – a development already being hailed as one of the most significant industrial investments in Teesside’ s modern history.
The £ 900m facility dominates the Teesworks site, stretching approximately 810m in length, 200m in width and rising 40m high.
Once fully operational, the plant will be capable of producing some of the world’ s largest monopiles – up to 120m long, 15.5m in diameter and weighing more than 3,000 tonnes.
The scale of the site, and the precision engineering behind it, offers a powerful demonstration of Teesside’ s growing role at the heart of the UK’ s offshore wind ambitions.
The factory is expected to create around 750 direct jobs and a further 1,500 supplychain positions, providing a major boost to local employment and skills development.
Production is already underway, with the first monopiles destined for Ørsted’ s Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm.
The initial units are due to roll off the line in the first quarter of 2026, marking the beginning of a new chapter for heavy manufacturing on the Tees.
Tees Business directors Dave Allan and Martin Walker and head of sales Chris Garbutt joined representatives from leading organisations including Durata, Education Training Collective, PD Ports, AV Dawson, Circle Cloud, SABIC, Baines Jewitt, Middlesbrough College, Sembcorp, Outrank and Barclays for the exclusive tour, hosted by David Jack and Lewis McDonald of SeAH Wind.
Dave said:“ Standing inside a facility of this scale – and knowing it has been built right here on Teesside – is genuinely inspiring.
“ SeAH Wind’ s investment isn’ t just creating jobs; it’ s driving confidence, ambition and momentum across our business community. You can feel the stepchange.”
Fellow director Martin added:“ What impressed me most was the sense of partnership.
“ From training providers to engineering firms and port operators, everyone here has a stake in making this development a success.
“ It’ s a landmark project that showcases what Teesside can deliver – and a clear signal that our region is central to the UK’ s net zero journey.”
The visit offered attendees a fascinating insight into a transformative project set to accelerate economic growth while reinforcing Teesside’ s reputation as a world-class hub for green energy manufacturing.
