previously , which were provided by a European company , so it ’ s reduced their transport costs down by roughly a load a week .
“ We put extra manpower into it and three experienced colleagues from Titan Canada even came over to help and advise .
“ Now we hope it will lead to future business with London Energy and any other customers needing a custom-built trailer .
“ We ’ d built some compacters before for another customer but this reinforces that we can build anything – whatever the customer wants , we can build it to their specification , their requirements .
“ And while this was a big contract , and it ’ s a bit of a cliché , there ’ s no job too small . Whatever the customer wants , if it ’ s possible , we will do what we can .”
Customer sales and service manager Cliff Holdsworth said it was a challenging but rewarding contract to fulfil for Titan ’ s 27-strong team .
He said : “ They were difficult to make at times because they were something new but once the guys saw the finished product , they knew they ’ d made something really good .
“ We got them all around the front for a picture and I think they were pleased they ’ d achieved something totally different from the normal standard trailers we make .
“ Once they get out there and people around London , and some of the big energy plants , see them , hopefully they ’ ll think , ‘ Oh , something different – we could do with them for our site ’.”
With a guaranteed seven-year minimum lifespan , the London Energy trailers – like every trailer Titan makes – are built to last . Every trailer is expertly assembled by Titan ’ s Teesside team using parts shipped over from its Canadian parent company – a firm founded in the 1970s by Mike Kloepfer , who still runs the business and takes a keen interest in what ’ s happening on Teesside .
Currently , Titan can roll out two trailers a week from its purpose-built Grangetown factory for the aggregate , recycling and waste industries .
The full product range usually sells for between £ 80,000 to £ 100,000 – a little more than some competitors , maybe , but as Cliff says : “ We ’ re a long-term trailer – others only last three years , ours can last 10 .”
And while London Energy decided to apply its own branding , Titan ’ s recently reventilated paint shop can produce some eye-catching work with first-class finishes .
A growing demand from the bulk haulage market and a move from landfill towards recycling means Titan is constantly evaluating the type of trailers it needs to make .
Developments like Teesworks and the shift towards recycling will , potentially , mean more opportunities for Titan – company motto “ Strength Through Innovation ”.
And with an eye on the future , it now looks set to benefit from new legislation regarding food waste .
Alex explained : “ There ’ s new legislation coming into place next month where all businesses employing more than 10 people have to segregate and have collected their dry recyclable materials and food waste .
“ For our customer , Veolia , we ’ re building six semi-leakproof trailers to assist in this new ‘ simpler recycling ’.
“ This legislation will also come into effect for households from March 31 2026 , so everybody at home will ultimately get another bin for food waste .
“ To react to these changes , we ’ ll build a demonstration trailer that we can then offer to other waste movers , which may lead to future sales to comply with this new regulation .
“ It ’ s another example of us diversifying to the customers ’ needs .”
