Teesside firm supplies waste trailers to London
WORDS : DAVE ROBSON
Contract – Titan Trailers assembled 12 new branded vehicles for London Energy at the firm ’ s impressive 14-bay , 60,000-sq ft factory on the Bolckow Road Industrial Estate .
It ’ s the nearest Middlesbrough will get to Arsenal right now – but a fleet of stateof-the-art trailers has been dispatched from Teesside to north London in a big money deal .
London Energy , which provides waste management services to more than two million north London residents , has its central hub right next to Arsenal ’ s Emirates Stadium .
And helping service that hub are 12 trailers constructed right here on Teesside .
Titan Trailers – the UK-branch of Canadian parent company Titan Trailers Inc – assembled them at its impressive 14- bay , 60,000-sq ft factory on the Bolckow Road Industrial Estate .
There ’ s been manufacturing on the site since 2006 , and from the current , rebuilt factory since 2017 , although the firm remains one of Teesside ’ s hidden gems .
But for every major contract landed , such as the one with new customer London Energy , Titan ’ s reputation for producing high-quality , bespoke trailers for a variety of customers continues to spread across the country .
For London Energy , 12 trailers have been built . Five are Titan ’ s standard , heavy-duty trailer with walking floor .
The other seven are “ compacters ” – still a standard 44ft 6ins length , but containing a heavily reinforced “ guillotine ” back door to reflect London Energy ’ s use of the compacting system when loading its wagons .
Branded with London Energy ’ s logos , the trailers are now being hauled around the capital by a fleet of new Volvo wagons .
The deal was made through finance company Novuna and part-brokered by a Teessider working for London Energy , fleet manager Gareth Stephenson .
And Titan ’ s UK operations manager Alex Adams says everyone is delighted with the deal – and the product .
He told Tees Business : “ It ’ s at least £ 1.5m-worth of business for us and an introduction to a new market .
“ It took us around 14 months because they are bespoke trailers for their specific requirements – they are one-offs .
“ But they were all out working from the first week of January and the customer ’ s very happy with them .
“ The payload has increased too – they can carry four extra tonnes of waste per trip , compared to the ones they used
