BC & T Consultants is a proud Teesside business making a big splash on the national and international stage .
Based at Ash House , Stockton , the firm ’ s employees are sharing their knowledge and expertise on major projects stretching from the south coast to South Africa !
It ’ s Teesside “ grit and courage ” that has enabled BC & T Consultants to forge a formidable reputation in the global petrochemical sector .
Established in 1986 , the company is a multi-disciplinary engineering and design consultancy providing process , mechanical , civil , structural and electrical , control and instrumentation engineering services to the process industries .
Boasting a highly-skilled team largely recruited from the Teesside region , BC & T Consultants is directly involved in several impressive major projects .
“ As a business we specialise in the petrochemical sector ,” explains general manager Joe Melville .
“ We are currently involved in projects on sites locally , which we are proud of as a Teesside business , as well as supporting projects around the UK and further afield as well .”
“ We are supporting quite a number of sustainable aviation fuel ( SAF ) projects across the UK ,” he continues .
“ It ’ s a UK mandate which came into effect on January 1 , and is a key policy to decarbonise aviation fuel through the introduction of sustainable aviation fuel .
“ We are providing tank storage terminals with the expert capability and knowledge to implement such facilities and systems .
“ To enable either conversion to SAF –
or new build to SAF – we are having to undertake the overall engineering , design and concept studies to enable those projects to move forward and gestate into real-world projects .
“ We are heavily involved in the early stages ; we support the feasibility studies and the concept .
“ That means when the client comes to us it ’ s easier if they have looked at the project themselves and have an idea of how they may be able to do it .
“ Sometimes that isn ’ t the case , and we must develop it from fresh . Under these circumstances we go through an identification or appraisal stage in the early option study ; progressing to feasibility assessments , followed by the front-end engineering design ( FEED ), after which we can move into detailed engineering and ultimately to construction .
“ The fact that we have specialist knowledge in that area is enabling us to serve that sector of the market in the best way possible .”
BC & T Consultants ’ growing reputation for quality and competence means clients keep coming back to them with new projects .
One such example is a $ 50m LPG ( liquified petroleum gas ) facility in South Africa involving inland rail-loading .
“ It stems from our longstanding relationship with the client ,” says Joe .
“ We ’ ve successfully delivered work for them previously – this will be the fourth project for this client - and they ’ ve come to us exclusively for the project . We ’ re commencing the engineering design as of now .”
Closer to home , the firm is in the process of completing a major fuelstorage terminal conversion project on the south coast . The company ’ s success is a reflection of its outstanding workforce . BC & T Consultants has an ongoing commitment to offer apprenticeships to talented young Teessiders . Its existing , established , highly skilled engineers continue to pass on their knowledge to a new generation .
It ’ s no exaggeration to say BC & T Consultants shares its Teesside expertise across the globe .
“ Our operation runs on the capability of Teesside people , and we are able to offer and provide that resource across the UK and internationally ,” says Joe .
“ As Teessiders we ’ ve got that ability to communicate well with people and we are good at building and maintaining relationships .
“ There ’ s a level of courage and grit to do things and deliver . We care about what we do as well and that ’ s important . It comes through in the work that we deliver . “ We get very positive feedback ; our clients appreciate that we are specialists and that we have the required knowledge and competence to provide the standard of work that we do .”
