SUSTAINABILITY

As the world continues to change for the better , Teesside port operator and multimodal logistics firm AV Dawson is striving for sustainability

Like many other businesses , the company , which owns and operates Port of Middlesbrough , is driving towards a greener future . With the launch of its environmental , social and governance ( ESG ) strategy earlier this year , the business has a clear plan to achieve its net zero ambitions .

One person who has been vital to implementing this new strategy and the company ’ s drive towards a cleaner future is its head of sustainability and performance , Jon Booth .
Jon , a mechanical engineer by trade , has been a part of the firm for over three years and started in the business as the automotive manager , predominately looking after the automotive and rail operations within AV Dawson .
Over the last few years , the business has significantly increased its focus on the environment and established a sustainability team , which Jon now heads up .
Jon said : “ As part of my role as head of sustainability and performance , I work alongside the team in identifying the best ways and means we can to become a more sustainable business .
“ Part of my role is working with our customers and also suppliers within our supply chain to analyse what we are already doing and identify opportunities to collectively improve our environmental performance . I am also involved in writing bids and tenders to support this work .
Commitment - head of sustainability and performance Jon Booth , pictured here with procurement manager Jayne Cruddas , says the ESG policies now in place are promises to the firm ’ s customers , colleagues and the community .
It ’ s important we protect what we have built , but also look to the future to inspire the next generations to create a lasting legacy .
