Ethan Woodhall , Teesside Airport Billingham teenager Ethan Woodhall has taken on an air traffic control assistant role at Teesside Airport .
Good friends with fellow new recruit Ben Harrety , the 18-year-old took to the tower after a tour of the airport kindled his interest and convinced him to pursue it as a career .
Ethan said : “ I managed to get a familiarisation visit and as soon as I arrived , everyone in the team was friendly and welcoming . They opened up to me as if I was starting . I got to see the tower and radar and find out about the role . After that , I thought it could be for me and I pushed on to interview .”
The former Northfield student had applied to the RAF before the opportunity arose at Teesside .
He added : “ I ’ ve never really been quite as interested in other parts of aviation – air traffic has been number one and the main priority . When I got the chance , I had to take it .
“ Everything is unique from day-to-day . You can go from civil aviation , with a TUI or Ryanair flight , or over to Draken .
“ The team has been phenomenal . They ’ ve welcomed me in so well – they treat me like I ’ ve been here for months , even though it ’ s only been a few weeks . If I ’ m ever stuck or need to ask a question they give me an answer straight away and I couldn ’ t thank them enough .
“ They ’ ve pushed me , and I thrive off that – it ’ s great to see the team and we all get on so well .”
Tees Valley mayor Ben Houchen said : “ I ’ m proud of the progress our teams are making every day in ensuring our local airport is a success .

Kayhan Kajumi , Intasite Stockton-based Intasite has recruited its first apprentice after a record year that saw a 40 % increase in turnover and significant expansion of its client base .
Kayhan Kajumi , who joins Intasite as a software developer apprentice through a collaboration with Middlesbrough College , is a T-level graduate .
He brings a diverse skill set in web development , with expertise in JavaScript , HTML & CSS , React , Tailwind , SQL and version control systems such as Perforce and Git .
His background includes developing and creating online presences for businesses , contributing to projects involving design , prototyping , development and maintenance , which will play a vital role in enhancing Intasite ’ s digital content for health and safety onboarding programmes .
He will be deeply involved in both backend and front-end software development and will collaborate with the team to create and enhance digital content for Health & Safety inductions , including building training materials and updating online user guides .
He will also provide customer service and technical support , engage with various stakeholders , contribute to process controls and assist in implementing future business ideas .
Intasite is a leading technology platform dedicated to streamlining safety and site access processes for safety-critical industries .
As well gaining practical , hand-on industry experience , Kayhan will have the opportunity to work with prominent names including Budweiser , Virgin Media O2 , EDF Renewables , SSE PLC , Sky Studios , CityFibre and Equinor .
He said : “ This opportunity allows me to apply my skills in a real-world setting , collaborate with industry leaders and contribute to impactful projects . I look forward to growing with the team and making a meaningful difference in safety and site access processes .”
